Ferry Terminal, Bainbridge Island
Winslow, Washington
Spring, 2005
Professor: Karen Thomas

Washington State Ferrys was in the process of redesigning and rebuilding the existing Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal. This project for the 502 level studio was taught in conjunction with a systems integration class as well as a landscape theory class. The project was designed to minimize the impact of the new facilities by locating them above the car holding area. This was accomplished through the erection of a steel and concrete superstructure which spans 14 lanes of automobile traffic. Pieces of the existing structure are maintained and used to support the elevated pedestrian walkway. Other program elements are constructed as wood in-fill which can come and go as the ever-changing needs of the system require.
