Skin Boat School, Lake Union
Seattle, Washington
Winter, 2004
Professor: Rick Mohler
The 501 level studios are focused on tectonics and specific detailing of smaller scale architectural projects. The skinboat school design utilized the man-made shoreline to create dynamic relationships between different program areas. The thickened roof planes are supported by trussed columns on a regular grid, while their individual positions echo the liminal characteristics of Lake Unions industrial/residential shoreline. Solar gain is mitigated through the skin of the building which interchanges thin film photo voltaic's, insulated metal panels, and clear glazing.
